With the publication of my book on Mary and William Dyer, I will now make a greater effort to post more of my research notes: what sources I looked at and some of the primary documentation that informed my work.
The next step must be to search other records associated with the Kirkby Laythorp and Alveston area Dyers and collateral families: additional probate records, chancery court proceedings, lay subsidy records, and the like. Anne Dyer Carre reportedly left a will upon her decease in Ramsey, Huntington, probated January 1640, but the author has not been able to locate it. The wills of her husband, Sir Edward Carre, and her brother-in-law, Sir William Carre, both allude to members of the Dyer family but break no new ground. A check of all known surviving contemporary wills for Kirkby Laythorp and Sleaford revealed no Dyers.
The pages below offer some insight into a few research avenues followed in search of the elusive Dyers and Barretts–with more work needed to be done.
