Distant View of Dyre Farm
A daguerreotype of Newport, dating 1840-1865, possibly taken from the Atlantic House hotel. At foreground, the old Stone Mill is visible. The Newport Asylum is visible near the horizon. Just below the Asylum can be seen the old Maitland house (where was once the Dyre farm) and several out buildings
Although this is a distant image with a poor result, it is a rare and likely the earliest photographic image of what was the old Dyre farm.
